MEET JUSTIN

Justin was born and raised in Brooklyn.

The son of a record salesman and early childhood educator. After attending PS 185, McKinley JHS and Xaverian High School, Brannan studied journalism at Fordham, before embarking on a career as a professional musician. His bands released several albums and toured the world – traveling to over fifty countries across five continents.

While working at a New York City radio station, Brannan got involved in union organizing and fought to recover unpaid wages for his co-workers. He then served as Chief of Staff to his predecessor Councilman Gentile and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Education where he helped oversee the expansion of Universal Pre-K.

A long time believer in the importance of making government work efficiently to create opportunities for working and middle class families, Brannan was elected in 2017 from a crowded field of ten candidates to represent southwest Brooklyn’s 43rd Council District.

Since taking office, Justin has secured secured over $250 million in funding for his community and passed 80 bills passed.

Some notable accomplishment include:

  • Secured a deal for the first new Bay Ridge public high school in 80 years!

  • Delivered NYC express ferry – Bay Ridge to Manhattan in 20 minutes!

  • More money for increased corner trash pick-ups He procured over $50 million for local park and playground renovations.

  • $50+ million to renovate just about all of our local parks & playgrounds

  • $17+ million allocated to our local and citywide non-profit organizations doing crucial work

  • 5 new public schools being built in District 20 to address classroom overcrowding

  • By 2024 all D75 students will have a seat inside a D20 school

  • $15 million+ towards improvements and upgrades for our existing local public schools

  • Cutting red tape & greedy fees for our local small businesses

  • Leading the 86th Street commercial revitalization plan

  • Secured a deal for the new Maimonides emergency hospital coming to the former Victory Memorial site

  • Helped save the Brooklyn VA Hospital

With too many people feeling that government only works for the wealthy and well-connected,

Councilman Brannan has vowed to always fight for the “little guy.”

The 47th Council District might be far from the soaring skyscrapers and posh penthouses that many associate with New York City, but Brannan knows that his district is the backbone of the City and deserves the same respect, resources and results as everyone else. As Councilman, he’s made it his mission to make life just a little bit easier for everyone who calls this district their home.

Justin lives in Bay Ridge with his wife Leigh, an artist, educator, and small business owner.
