Brooklyn Councilman Justin Brannan talks about $107 billion budget deal

Last week, the City Council and Mayor Eric Adams announced one of the largest budget deals in the city’s history.

The $107 billion budget includes restoring funds to the city’s libraries, CUNY programs and nearly $33 million for a vacant apartment readiness program with the city’s public housing authority.

But City Council members have been vocal about how difficult negotiations this year were and how many priorities they failed to meet.

This year’s budget also comes as Adams secures contracts with several city unions.

City Council member Justin Brannan, chair of the Council’s Committee on Finance and who represents the district in Brooklyn which includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to talk about some of the priorities the City Council was able to secure in the deal and some they were not.

“The budget is due when the fiscal year is over, and we wanted to use as much time as we could,” Brannan said. “We understood the assignment was to get the budget passed and balance it on time.”
