Mayor Adams formally threw his support behind Brooklyn Councilman Justin Brannan’s competitive reelection bid Thursday, his first endorsement in this year’s local election cycle.

City Council member Justin Brannan, chair of the Council’s Committee on Finance and who represents the district in Brooklyn which includes Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to talk about some of the priorities the City Council was able to secure in the deal and some they were not.

City Councilman Justin Brannan says a deal has been reached with the city's Finance Department and the Legal Aid Society to save the mansion from being demolished.

City & State caught up with Brannan a day after the visit to discuss the latest allocation of federal emergency funds for asylum-seekers, the council’s advocacy for expedited work authorizations and more. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

City Council Member Justin Brannan, a Brooklyn Democrat and chair of the Council's Finance Committee, joined the show to discuss city budget negotiations with just weeks to go until a new spending plan is due by the July 1 start of the new fiscal year. He also discussed his participation in a small Council delegation trip to Washington, DC, to pursue a variety of priorities, including more federal funding for asylum-seeker services.

"We believe that up to a million New Yorkers might be eligible for this program which would give free eye exams and if they need it, they would get a free pair of eyeglasses," Brannan said.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will begin installing accessibility upgrades to the 95th Street subway station in Bay Ridge this year, according to Council Member Justin Brannan.
